Embrace the romance of rain
Many couples dread the thought of rain on their wedding day, with visions of damp dresses, muddy venues, and chilly guests becoming a focus on the run-up to the big day. In some cultures, rain on a wedding day is seen as good luck, as a sign of cleansing and fertility, and some say that rain tightens the knot of a wedding (taken from the days of hand-fasting where couples tied a knot during their wedding ceremony). Despite all our best efforts, it’s impossible to control the weather! So, the next best step is to be prepared and embrace whatever the skies above decide to do because your hearts are still filled with romance.
Make plans to have clear umbrellas on hand. The transparent material will still allow light to brighten your face. Embrace this and have fun with it! If you just let go of your worries and enjoy celebrating your wedding day with your best friends and significant other, your images will still turn out beautiful, candid, and joyful- just as you always hoped. Also, rain doesn’t show up that much in photos, so don’t worry that all your images will have streaks of raindrops preventing a sharp final product.
If you are planning a “First Look” and most of your portraits will be occurring pre-ceremony, make sure to wrap up at least 30 minutes before your ceremony. This way, you and your wedding party will have plenty of time for wardrobe, hair, and makeup touchups, so you will be perfectly styled again once your ceremony starts time rolls around.
Embrace the weather! Remember the real reason you’re getting married – it isn’t because of the weather, it’s because you love each other and want to celebrate that in front of your family and friends. Whatever the weather is doing is, by the way, you can still have the perfect wedding day. If your dress gets a little muddy, it’s the sign you’ve embraced the day whole-heartedly; if there’s a storm, it’ll make for a great story to tell the children and grandchildren because the essence of true love is weathering any and all storms together.
